2013 Chinese New Year sales: Shenzhen

HKTDC's 11 mainland offices, namely in Beijing, Dalian, Qingdao, Xian, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Fuzhou and Shenzhen, conducted market surveys on high-end, mid-high end and mid-range shopping centres in their cities a week after the Chinese New Year to find out about their festival sales.

Sales resultsItalian first-line fashion brand Marni did not offer significant discount at the Chinese New Year.  However, as relatively large numbers of Shenzhen consumers stayed and spent the festival in Shenzhen, sales posted a 5% increase.Sales promotions as main strategy, with the growing popularity of Apple products among consumers, Apple products were offered as gifts to attract young consumers and expand sales turnover.Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day brought about hot sales of gold jewellery, year-on-year growth at 50%.Women's underwear and apparel shop 6IXTY 8IGHT launched discount sales at Christmas, drawing women's buying desire and expanding sales turnover.Women's shoes shop ST&SAT offered 72% discount for selected items at Chinese New Year and March 8 Women's Day; discount sales also on May 1 Labour Day and National Day, drawing women's buying desire and expanding sales turnover.Maybelline, a makeup brand well known among young people, launched discount sales during the Chinese New Year, attracting more customers.
