Hong Kong companies tapping into Guangxi's logistics sector: Liujing Operation Area at Nanning port
Nanning port Nanning is an important inland port serving China’s southwestern provinces and connecting to the golden waterway of Xijiang. Currently it is divided into three operation areas, namely Niuwan operation area in Nanning central city port area, Balian joint-venture factories operation area in Liujing port area and Liujing transfer station operation area in Liujing port area. In these three operation areas 21 berths will be constructed with a total investment of Rmb1.94 billion. Nanning Port Development Investment Co Ltd is responsible for the construction, operation and management of phase 1 development of Nanning port.
Liujing Operation Area, Nanning port Construction is now underway for 10 berths capable of accommodating 3,000-ton-class ships and for piers catering respectively to bulk cargoes, sundry goods and containers. The operation area is 600 m in length and 1,000 mu (ca 66.67 ha) in area. Supporting facilities including warehouses, logistics amenities, shopping facilities, residential units and a processing area have been planned. With railway, waterway and highway connections to the port area and with direct motorway access to the port of Qinzhou, the port area is designed to serve all provinces and cities in southwestern China. It is expected to be operational in March 2014 as a large inland port in China.
