Pingxiang is China’s largest overland border-checkpoint city that connects to the ASEAN. Currently it has two Class 1 border checkpoints, one Class 2 border checkpoint and four border trading posts. For successive years Pingxiang has ranked first among all Guangxi cities and counties in terms of eight criteria, including foreign trade imports and exports, cross-border import-export petty trade, import-export trade with Vietnam and import-export trade with ASEAN. It also ranks first nationally in redwood furniture imports for six successive years and also in fruits imports and exports with ASEAN for four successive years.
Located at the Friendship Pass, the Pingxiang Integrated Bonded Zone borders with Lang Son of Vietnam and is linked directly to a Vietnam border checkpoint. In 2008 it was approved by the central government to be the country’s first integrated bonded area set up at a land border. As such, it is the main overland passage to ASEAN and also one of China’s special customs supervision areas serving the most diverse functions and characterised by a high level of opening-up. Its four main functions include border-checkpoint operations, bonded logistics, bonded processing and international trade. It is now an export processing base for machinery and electronics, electronic information products, new energy-saving materials and eco-friendly products. At the same time, it is also a transit trade logistics centre mainly for machinery, electronic information products and mineral products.
