GAC gives full support to developing Hengqin
The General Administration of Customs (GAC) recently held a press conference in Zhuhai's Hengqin New Area to announce 24 measures in support of the Area's development.
1. Paying utmost attention to policy implementation
Since the approval of the Overall Development Plan for Hengqin, the GAC has taken the lead to establish a joint study group of nine ministries and departments to bring innovation to Hengqin's customs system. The GAC has also participated actively in the subsequent study led by the National Development and Reform Commission on Hengqin's positioning and formulating customs clearance policies and preferential tax policies for the Area. GAC has been lending full support to the opening up and development of Hengqin.
2. 24 Measures to support developing Hengqin
GAC's 24 measures in support of Hengqin's opening up and development this time cover 10 major aspects, including accelerating the construction of port facilities, introducing innovation to customs clearance systems and measures, giving full play to the area's geographical advantage, implementing preferential tax policies, expediting the building of Guangdong-Macau cooperative industrial parks, promoting regional economic development, quickening the construction of customs information systems, supporting the construction of major projects, clamping down on illegal smuggling activities and strengthening customs' safeguarding capability. Such measures are efforts made to implement proposals in the Overall Development Plan for Hengqin as well as policies endorsed by the State Council in accelerating the opening up and development of Hengqin.
3. Giving Hengqin unique policy advantages
GAC's 24 measures involve aspects like port construction, industrial development, system innovation and preferential tax policies, giving Hengqin unique policy advantages. GAC indicated that it would continue to implement the relevant policies drawn up by the state, formulate specific customs supervision measures and ensure the smooth implementation of various preferential policies. Communication with local party and government officials will also be stepped up so that new problems identified can be tackled in time and the opening up and development of Hengqin New Area can be further facilitated.
