Beihai lies on the northeastern bank of Beibu Gulf in southwest China. It is a hub city connecting south and southwest China to Southeast Asia. The Beihai Port comprises four habours that can build berths for different purposes. The Beihai Fucheng International Airport which is only 25km from town has flights to 16 cities in Mainland China, as well as Hong Kong.
Fishery is a major industry in Beihai. Apart from marine fishing, marine fish farms of shrimp, clam, oyster and pearl are also well developed.
With Beibu Gulf being one of the six oil and gas bases in China, Beihai has developed a petrochemical industry cluster. Other emerging industrial clusters include new materials and information technology. The industry sector, including traditional industries such as machinery, ferrous metallurgy and food processing, accounted for 45% of the GDP in 2015.
