Bengbu is situated on the River Huai in the northeastern part of Anhui Province. The Bengbu Port is connected to Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangxi via the Jing-Hang Canal.
The city can be accessed by the Beijing-Shanghai Railway and Beijing-Fuzhou Express Railway, or by car via the Beijing-Fuzhou Highway and the Nanluo Highway. The Bengbu Airport offers flights to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu.
Bengbu has a rather significant agricultural sector with large output of peanuts and cotton that support the city’s food and beverage manufacturing and textile industry.
The industry sector accounted for 42% of the GDP in 2015. Cotton yarn production is a major industry in the city. Other major industries include cigarette manufacturing, chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
Anhui Fengyuan Biochemical, a listed company in Shenzhen Stock Exchange is one of the leading enterprises in Bengdu that specializes in chemical production. Hong Kong’s High Harvest Enterprises Ltd has also invested in Bengbu to produce car battery.
