Chaozhou lies in the eastern part of the Guangdong Province adjoining the Fujian Province. The city has become much more convenient in transportation with the completion of the Shenzhen-Xiamen high speed railway in 2014. Besides, a number of highways including the Shenzhen-Shantou Highway, the Chaozhou-Jieyang Highway and the Shantou-Jieyang Highway intersect in the city. The Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport which is very close to Chaozhou, offers daily flights to Beijing, Shanghai and Qingdao.
Chaozhou has a large industrial sector which accounted for 50% of its GDP in 2015. Major industries in the city are ceramics, plastic products, food processing, textiles and garments, stainless steel-related products, printing, non-metal products and electric power production.
Leading industrial enterprises invested in Chaozhou include Yashili Group, Chaozhou Sanyuan Ceramics, Sitong Group and Guangdong Famory Group.
In view of the rising flows of goods and people brought by the completion of the Shenzhen-Xiamen high speed railway, Chaozhou government has decided to speed up development of the Chaozhou-Shantou High Speed Railway Economic Zone (潮汕高鐵經濟區) which comprises the Zhongshan (Chaozhou) Industry Relocation Park (中山(潮州)產業轉移園), the Meilin Lake commercial and residential area and the logistic park near the high speed railway station.
