General Introduction

Chengdu, capital of the Sichuan province, is situated on the western edge of the Sichuan Basin. The city serves as the economic, commercial, finance, transportation and communication centre of southwest China. It ranked the 15th most competitive city in China in 2016 according to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Chengdu is designated as a national hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. The Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, the Baoji-Chengdu Railway, the Chengdu-Kunming Railway and the Chengdu-Dazhou Railway intersect in Chengdu. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport offers flight routes domestically and internationally. It ranked the fourth in passenger throughput in 2015 among all airports in China.

Chengdu has a service-oriented economy. Tourism is one of the pillars of Chengdu's service sector. 

Chengdu has a rather large industrial sector. Total industrial output amounted to RMB 1,193 billion in 2015. It has eight major industries, including electronic information, food processing (including tobacco), machinery, petrochemical, metallurgy, automobiles, building materials and light industry.
