Chongzuo, bordering Vietnam, is located in the southwestern part of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Transportation in Chongzuo mainly relies on highways, railways and waterways. It is accessible to Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macau directly by the Zuojiang River.
Chongzuo is rich in natural resources. Forests cover 44% of the city's lands. Mineral resources such as manganese, bentonite, tungsten iron, coal, barite, uranium, vanadium and gold are abundant. Reserves of manganese and bentonite rank first in China.
The agricultural sector plays a significant role to the city’s economy. A major product is sugarcane.
Chongzuo is the largest sugar manufacturing base in China. Sugar production is the most important industry. Other major industries include manganese mining and processing. Total industrial production contributed 33% to the GDP in 2015.
Trade with ASEAN is booming in Chongzuo. Major exports are mahogany furniture, mechanical and electrical products, textiles, garments, fruits and vegetables, and herbal and mineral products.
