General Introduction

Dingxi is located in the middle part of the Gansu Province, in the upper reaches of the Yellow River. Transportation is convenient in Dingxi. Highways intersect in the city. The Lianyungang-Lanzhou Railway (the new Asia-Europe land bridge) runs through the city and connects the city with major cities such as Zhengzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Lanzhou and Xi'an.

Dingxi has a significant agricultural sector, it is famous as a city of potatoes, herbs (angelica) and horse bean. It is also rich in mineral resources, such as andalusite and marble.

Pillar industries in the city include aluminum processing, chemicals, equipment manufacturing and pharmaceuticals. Major production includes traditional herbal medicines. Leading enterprises in Dingxi are Chinalco Northwestern Aluminum Fabrication Plant, Gansu Longxi Kaihua Chemicals, and Dingxi Fuzheng Pharmaceuticals. The industry sector accounted for 12% of the GDP in 2015.
