Hechi is located in the northwestern part of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, bordering Guizhou Province to the north. Transportation mainly relies on highways, railways and waterways, connecting cities in Guangxi and Guizhou Provinces.
Hechi is widely known as the town of non-ferrous metals as it is rich in mineral resources, such as tin, lead, zinc, antimony, silver, indium, cadmium, sulfur and arsenic. Reserves of tin and indium rank first in China. Hechi is also the largest production base of tin and lead in China.
Hechi is also rich in hydro-power resources. The reserve of hydro-power in Hechi contributes more than half to Guangxi's total.
Benefiting from the rich mineral and energy resources, non-ferrous metals mining, non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry, electricity and thermal industry are the pillar industries of the city. In 2015, total industrial output accounted for 24% of the GDP.
