Longnan, located in the southeastern part of the Gansu Province, is famous for its unique landforms and geographic features.
Longnan is rich in natural resources, such as traditional medicine herbs. In addition, mineral resources such as lead, zinc, antimony, copper, manganese, gold, silicon and barite are abundant. Proven reserves of gold in Wenxian County rank first in Gansu Province.
The industry sector accounted for 14% of the GDP in 2015. Major industries include metallurgy, electricity and pharmaceutical. Major companies invested include Gansu Chengzhou Metallurgical Group, Bikou Power Plant, and Shenzhen-listed Hengkang Medical Group Co. Ltd.
The largest contributor to the city’s GDP is services, of which tourism is an important pillar. The city is well known for the Yinping Heaven Lake (Tian Chi), one of the three great pools in China. Longnan's Wanxiang cave is the largest limestone cave in Northwest China.
