Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu Province, is located in the southwestern area of the province. It ranked as the 13th most competitive city in China in 2016 according to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Nanjing is designated as a national hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. There are over 60 national and provincial highways connecting Nanjing to other major cities such as Shanghai, Hangzhou and Hefei. Nanjing Lukou International Airport, very close to the downtown, offers over 140 flight routes to domestic and foreign cities.
Nanjing Port, the largest inland port in Asia, and Nanjing Lukou International Airport are the two major places offering international and domestic cargo services, boosting the development of logistics industry.
Nanjing is also an educational hub in the Jiangsu province. There are 54 universities with 711,600 students. Nanjing University, Hohai University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics and Southeast University are well-known in China.
Nanjing has a rather large industry sector that accounted for 35% of the city’s GDP in 2015. It focuses on heavy industries including electronics, petrochemical, steel and automobile, that are the four mainstream industries in the city. Suning Appliance, PANDA Electronics and Yangzi Petrochemical are leading enterprises in the city.
Nanjing has a significant service sector, comprising 57% of the city. Financial industry is the most important pillar of the service sector.
