General Introduction

Putian is located in the middle of the province's coastline, facing Taiwan across the strait.

Putian has emerged as a port city with more than 30 wharfs and seaports developed in its three bay areas - Meizhou Bay, Xinghua Bay and Pinghai Bay. There have been regular container ships traveling from Xiu Yu Wharf to Hong Kong, making it possible to travel from Putian to all the wharfs in 26 countries and 41 areas by way of Hong Kong.

Land transportation is also efficient. Putain train station is connected with the national railway network and operates services to Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Zhengzhou, Nanjing, Nanchang and other large cities.

Putian was named the “City of Shoes”, indicating the significance of shoe manufacturing in the city. Other major industries in Putian include textile and garment, food processing, electronics, forest products processing, pharmaceuticals and medical devices manufacturing.

Tourism is a major industry in Putian's service sector and has attracted foreign capital to invest in Putian.
