Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture is located in the southeastern part of the Guizhou Province. The prefecture is easily accessible by highways and railways. The Guizhou-Guangxi Railway and the Hunan-Guizhou Railway connect the prefecture with other major cities in China.
Qiandongnan is rich in natural resources, such as barite, mercury, coal, iron, manganese and antimony. The proven barite reserves estimated at 104 million tons rank first in China.
The industry sector accounted for 20% of the GDP in 2015. Major industries include electricity, metallurgy, non-metallic mineral manufacturing, chemicals, wood processing and non-metallic mineral mining and dressing.
Tourism is an important pillar in the prefecture’s service sector. Qiandongnan is famous for its beautiful natural tourism resources and folk craftwork. More than 200 folk festivals and fairs are held in the prefecture.
