General Introduction
Shaoguan is situated at the meeting point of the Guangdong Province, Hunan Province and Jiangxi Province. It is the second largest city in Guangdong after Qingyuan, covering an area of 18,380 sq km.
Transportation in Shaoguan is convenient by highways and high speed railway from Guangzhou.
Shaoguan is rich in nonferrous metal resources, such as silver, zinc and lead.
Benefiting from abundant resources, metallurgy, electricity, steel and iron, and machinery has become major industries in the city. Other major industries include tobacco, toys and pharmaceuticals. The overall industry sector accounted 31% of the GDP in 2015.
Guangdong Shaoguan Iron & Steel Group, Guangdong Shaoneng Group and China Tobacco Guangdong Industrial Corporation (Shaoguan Cigarettes Plant) are major enterprises in the city.
Foreign investors including John Deere and Walmart have set up businesses there.
