Shiyan is seated in the northwestern part of the Hubei Province.
The transportation infrastructure is well established. The Xiangfan-Chongqing Railway runs through the city, connecting Shiyan with Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Zhengzhou and other cities. While State highways intersect in the city, Xiangfan Liuji Airport and Laohekou Airport are located less than 150 km from Shiyan.
Shiyan is a famous auto production base in China. Dongfeng Motor, one of the leading automakers in China, is headquartered in the city. Shiyan’s auto production cluster includes Dongfeng Motor, Dongfeng Industrial, Dongfeng Yu An, Double Star (Dongfeng) Tires and Hubei Sitom.
Other major industries in Shiyan include pharmaceuticals, textiles, metallurgy, electricity production and supply and chemicals. Hubei Wudangshan Bio-Pharmaceuticals and Shiyan Kangdi Pharmaceuticals of Wuhan Jianmin Pharmaceutical Group are the leading pharmaceutical makers in Shiyan.
Tourism is a pillar of the service sector in Shiyan. Shiyan is surrounded by diverse historical sites and beautiful natural scenery. Wudang Mountain, a famous Taoism mountain, is located in Shiyan. The ancient building complex of Wudang Mountain has been included in the list of World Cultural and Natural Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
