General Introduction

Taiyuan, capital of the Shanxi Province, is designated as a national hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. The Taiyuan Railway Station is the largest freight station in the province. There are at least five expressways and three national highways running through the city. Taiyuan Wu Xu International Airport offers more than fifty air routes to both domestic and overseas cities, including Frankfurt, Paris, London, New York, and San Francisco.

The industry sector accounted for 25% of the GDP in 2015. Metallurgy, coal mining and dressing, petrochemicals, electronics, heat and electrical power supply, equipment manufacturing, special purpose equipment manufacturing, chemicals, tobacco and transportation equipment manufacturing are the major industries in the city.

The service sector is the largest contributor to the city’s economy, led by the wholesale and retail and financial industry.
