General Introduction

Tangshan lies in the eastern part of the Hebei Province. It ranked the 29th most competitive city in China in 2016 according to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Tangshan is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. A number of highways and railways run through the city, and Hebei with other provinces. The Tangshan Sannuhe Airport has regular flights to other domestic cities. Tangshan Port, given an importance of regional port, provides domestic and international cargo services to countries in Asia and Europe.

Tangshan’s GDP ranked 1st among all cities in Hebei, accounting for 20% of the province’s GDP in 2015.

Tangshan has been an important industrial city since the Qing Dynasty. The industry sector is the largest contributor to Tangshan’s economy, accounting for 51% of the GDP in 2015. Major industries include metallurgy, mining, coal and equipment manufacturing.
