General Introduction

Tongliao is located in the eastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Daqing Valley, a national-level nature reserve, is located in Tongliao.

Tongliao is accessible by air, highways and railways. The Tongliao Airport operates flights to Hohhot every two days. A number of highways and railways connect the city with major cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian and Qinhuangdao.

Tongliao is rich in mineral resources including coal, oil, niobium, tantalum, beryllium, zirconium and other rare metals. Reserves of natural silica sand rank first in China.

Industry accounted for 46% of the GDP in 2015. Major industries are coal, agricultural products processing, food, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, nonmetallic products and metallurgy.
