General Introduction

Weifang is located in the central part of the Shandong Peninsula. The city is named as the "Capital of Kites". The International Kite Festival is held in Weifang every year.

Weifang is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics.The Qingdao-Jinan Railway passes through the city, and three major highways connect Weifang with Zibo, Qingdao and Yantai.

It ranked the 46th most competitive city in China by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2016.

Industry accounted for 42% of the GDP in 2015. Chemicals, power machinery, automobiles, textiles and garments, electronics and IT, new materials, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage processing, paper making and packaging are the major industries in the city. 

Leading enterprises in Weifang are Shandong Haihua Group, Asia Star Chemicals and the listed Chenming Paper.

Tourism is an important pillar of the service sector. Famous scenic spots in Weifang include the Yi Mountain, which has twenty-nine peaks around its highest point and the Old Dragon Lake with numerous springs.
