Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is located to the western part of the Qinghai Province. The source of the Yellow River, the Yangtze River and the Mekong River are all in the Yushu Prefecture.
Transportation in Yushu mainly relies on highways. State Highway 109 (Qinghai-Tibet) connects Yushu with Xining, Lanzhou, Sichuan and Chongqing.
Yushu is rich in mineral resources such as gold, silver, copper, iron, aluminum, coal, sulfur, crystal and jade.
Yushu has a significantly large agricultural sector that accounted for 43% of the GDP in 2015. Animal husbandry is the pillar of the agricultural sector.
Industry is underdeveloped in Yushu accounting for less than 1.2% of the GDP in 2015. Industry production include Chinese caterpillar fungus processing, ethnic clothing, and building materials.
