Zhoushan, situated in the northeastern part of the Zhejiang Province, is the only prefecture-level city in China that is composed solely of islands.
Zhoushan is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. The Zhoushan Port is an important port area of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, which handled 20.6 million TEUs in 2015, ranked third in China. The Zhoushan Putuoshan Airport offers regular flights to major cities in China, such as Beijing and Guangzhou.
Zhoushan is rich in natural resources. It has rich oil and gas resources.
Due to Zhoushan’s geographical location, its major industries are port-related such as aquatic products processing, and shipbuilding. Leading enterprises are COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard.
Logistics and tourism are two major contributors to the city's service sector.
