General Introduction

Bayannur is located in the western part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Ganqimaodao in the city is a national category-1 port for development of border trade with Mongolia.

Bayannur is accessible by highways and railways. The Baotou-Lanzhou Railway, The Dandong-Lhasa Expressway and State Highway 110 run through the city.

Bayannur has abundant mineral resources including pyrite, making Bayannur one the three largest pyrite bases in China. Other mineral resources are sulfur, copper, lead, coal, silver, rare earth metals, and graphite.

Industry is the largest economic sector accounting for 43% of the GDP in 2015. Major industries in the city include agricultural products processing, mining, chemicals and electricity.
