Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, one of the ten Tibetan Autonomous Prefectures in China, is located in the southern part of the Gansu province.
Transportation in Gannan mainly relies on State Highway 213 which runs through Gannan from north to south.
Gannan is rich in mineral resources, such as gold, uranium, arsenic, mercury, bismuth and peat.
The agricultural sector accounted for 21% of the GDP in 2015. Major products include fruits, herbs and vegetables.
Hydro-power, agricultural products processing, building material, metallurgy and Tibetan medicine are pillar industries in the prefecture. Major products include traditional Tibetan herbal medicines. The industrial sector accounted for 14% of the GDP in 2015.
Tourism is an important pillar of the service sector. The prefecture is famous for its beautiful attractions such as the Labrang Monastery and the religious handicrafts.
