Hezhou is located in the northeast part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, bordering Hunan and Guangdong Provinces. It covers an area of 11,855 sq km. Its population is 2.1 million.
Hezhou has a subtropical monsoon climate with plenty of rain. The average temperature is 20°C, while the average annual precipitation is 1500-2000 mm.
Hezhou is rich in natural resources. Forests cover more than 60% of the city’s lands, and forest reserves total 25 million steres. Hezhou’s annual output of resin is 50,000 tons. In addition, mineral resources such as gold, silver, tin, aluminum, zinc, iron, coal, marble and granite are abundant. Reserves of white marble amount to 2.6 billion steres.
Transportation in Hezhou mainly relies on highways. The State Highway 207 and the State Highway 323 run through the city and connect Guangxi with Hunan and Guangdong Provinces.

Hezhou realized GDP of RMB 28 billion in 2009, representing a rise of 12.2% year on year. The city's GDP accounted for approximately 3.7% of Guangxi's total.
The agricultural sector generated value-added output of RMB 6.1 billion in 2009, accounting for 21.7% of the city's GDP. Secondary industry (industry and construction), the largest contributor to the city’s economy, realized value-added output of RMB 14.7 billion, accounting for 52.5% of the city's total.
In 2009, the city’s industry sector realized value-added industrial output of RMB 11.6 billion, up 7.9% year on year. Wood processing, energy, non-ferrous metal processing, pharmaceuticals, and non-metallic mineral products are the pillar industries of the city.
The service sector contributed 25.8% of the city's total GDP in 2009.
In 2009, total exports amounted to US$135 million. The city’s major export goods are resin and its products, lighters, titanium, jewelry and metal silicon. Exports sell primarily to countries in the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).
In 2009, the city attracted investment of RMB 24 billion in total, rising 63% year on year. The domestic investment amounted to RMB 17.5 billion, up 81.1% year on year.

Hezhou is a city with over two thousand years of history. During the Han Dynasty (110 B.C), emperor Hanwu designated this area as Hexian County. During the Sui Dynasty, the city name was changed to Hezhou.
Hezhou is a multi-ethnic living area and home to ethnic groups including the Han, the Zhuang, the Yao, and the Miao. Local customs and folk arts such as the long drum dance of the Yao, the temple fair of Zhuang, and the Lusheng Dance of Miao are both exotic and attractive.

Hezhou is rich in tourism resources. Attractive scenery spots include the Gupo Mountain Tourism Area, which has a national rating of AAAA, the second highest level in China, the AAA-level Ziyun Cave Tourism Area, Dagui Mountain National Forest Park, Huangyao Ancient Town, and Hezhou Hot Spring.
Hezhou produces an abundance of subtropical fruits such as grapefruit, oranges, green plums, and longan.
