General Introduction

Huai'an is located in the northern part of Jiangsu. There are a number highways running through the city, including the Beijing-Shanghai Highway, the Nanjing-Suqian-Xuzhou Highway, the Suqian-Huai'an Highway and the Nanjing-Huai'an Highway. Huai’an Lianshui Airport offers regular domestic flights to other major cities in China.

Huai’an has one of the world's largest rock salt deposits that accounts for 70% of China's total.

The industry sector contributed 36% to the city’s GDP in 2015. Major industries in the city consist of machinery, textile, tobacco, food and beverages, construction materials and petrochemicals. Huaiyin Cigarette Manufacturing Plant is one of the oldest state-owned enterprises in Huai'an.
