Hulunbeier is located in the northeastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The world-famous Hulunbeier Grassland, reputed to be the 'Jade of the Northland', is one of the three most famous grasslands in the world.
Hulunbeier is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. The Manzhouli Airport and the Hailaer Airport operate flights to major cities including Beijing, Hohhot, Dalian and Tianjin. In addition, there are numerous railways and highways connecting Hulumbeier with cities such as Chifeng, Qiqihar and Beijing.
Hulumbeier is rich in mineral resources such as coal, petroleum, iron, copper, lead, zinc, molybdenum, gold and silver.
Hulunbeier's pillar industries are energy and chemicals. Additionally, wood material processing, food processing and metallurgy have also been rapidly developed in recent years. The industry sector made up 38% of the GDP in 2015.
Tourism is also an important pillar of the service industry. Hulunbeier boasts beautiful natural scenery including Hulumbeier Grassland, the Hulun Lake and the Beier Lake.
