Jilin City shares the same name with the Jilin Province. It is located at the centre of the province. Jilin is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. The Changchun-Jilin Highway connects Jilin with Changchun.
Jilin has plenty of hydraulic power and water resources. Jilin also has the nation's second-largest mine of molybdenum.
The industry sector accounted for 40% of the GDP in 2015. Major industries include petrochemicals, automobiles, metallurgy and food processing, of which petrochemicals is the largest industry in the city and automobiles is the second-largest industry. The city’s output of ABS, glycol and acrylic fiber all rank first in China.
Leading enterprises include Jilin Petrochemical Corp under China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) and Jilin Auto Corp under First Automobile Works.
