General Introduction

Jining, situated in the southern part of the Shandong Province, is an important birthplace of Chinese culture.

Jining is easily accessed by sea and land. It is only 300km away from the Qingdao Port and the Lianyungang Port. A number of highways and railways stop in Jining, connecting the city with other major cities in China, such as Beijing, Shanghai and Fuzhou.

Jining ranked the 48th most competitive city in China in 2016 according to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Industry is the dominant contributor to the city’s economy, accounting for 42% of the GDP in 2015. Benefiting from the abundance of coal, electric power and freshwater resources, major industries in Jining include coal chemicals, equipment manufacturing, energy, textile and garments, electronics and food processing.

Jining Sources of Energy Development Group and Yankuang Group are the two leading mining groups in Jining.

Tourism is an important pillar of Jining’s service sector. Major tourist attractions include the Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion of Qufu, which have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage.
