Jiujiang is located in the northern part of the Jiangxi Province.
Jiujiang is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. The Beijing-Jiujiang Railway, the Wuhan-Jiujiang Railway and the Hefei-Jiujiang Railway pass through the city. Jiujiang port, one of the ten largest ports in the Yangtze Valley, offers ferry and cargo service to other cities.
The city focuses on ten pillar industries including metallurgy & building materials, textile and garment industry, petrochemical industry, automobile and shipbuilding. The whole industry sector accounted for 45% of the GDP in 2015.
