Kashgar Prefecture is located in the southwestern part of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Kashgar is rich in natural and mineral resources such as petroleum, natural gas, jade, gold, copper, aluminum, zinc, nickel, vanadium, titanium, crystal and mica.
Kashgar is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. A number of highways run through the city. Kashgar Airport, the second largest airport in Xinjiang for passenger, operates daily flights to Urumqi.
Kashgar is the second largest agricultural base in Xinjiang. Agriculture that accounted for 29% of the GDP in 2015 produced the second largest amount of cotton in Xinjiang.
