General Introduction

Lijiang is located in the northwestern part of the Yunnan Province. It can be accessed by highways and airports. State Highway 214 connects the city with Dali and Shangri-La. Lijiang Sanyi Airport operates scheduled flights to Kunming, Xishuangbanna and Shanghai.

Lijiang has a rather big agricultural sector that supports the food processing industry in the city. Other major industries include coal mining, electricity, and building materials.

The service sector is the largest economic contributor to Lijiang, accounting for 44% of the GDP in 2014. Tourism is the most important pillar of the service sector. The city has been listed as a World Cultural Heritage since 1997 by UNESCO. Tourism earnings ranked the 64th among all cities in China in 2014.
