Linyi sits in the southern part of the Shandong Province. It has established a convenient transportation network with the Linyi Airport offers regular flights to major cities in mainland China. Besides, numerous highways and railways, such as the Beijing-Shanghai Highway and the Yanzhou-Shijiu Railway all run through the city. Linyi is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics.
Linyi is rich in mineral resources including iron, titanium, copper, gold, silver and aluminum.
Agriculture contributed 9% to the GDP in 2015. Due to the temperate continental climate and the fertile land, Linyi is an agricultural base for wheat, peanuts, corn, cotton and soybeans.

Since Linyi is a famous ancient city in Chinese history, its splendid history and culture help develop the tourism industry. Attractions in Linyi are the Museum of Bamboo Strips of Han Dynasty Tomb, Shandong Underground Grand Canyon, Wolong Mountain Buddhist Patriarch Cave, Mengshan National Forest Park, and Yishui Snowy Mountain Tourist Resort.
