Longyan is in the western part of the Fujian Province, lying at the intersection of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi Provinces.
Longyan is accessible by a number of railways, including the Fuzhou-Shenzhen Railway, the Guangzhou-Xiamen Railway and the Yingtan-Xiamen Railway. The city is also linked to Xiamen, Zhangzhou and other cities in the province by the Zhanglong Highway.
Longyan has abundant mineral resources and is an important flue-cured tobacco production base in China. Benefiting from the abundant mineral resources including copper and iron, iron and steel, nonferrous and construction material are major industries in the city. Other industries include tobacco processing, equipment manufacturing, textile and agricultural product processing.
Leading industrial enterprises include Longyan Tohacco Industrial Co Ltd and Longyan Engineering Machinery Company. Longyan Tobacco Industrial Co Ltd, formerly Longyan Cigarettes Factory is the largest tobacco maker in Fujian Province.
