Maanshan is situated in the eastern part of the Anhui Province, at the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
The city enjoys geographical advantage. It is linked with Wuhu and Nanjing (provincial capital of Jiangsu) by the Yangtze River and by highway. The city is also connected with the Nanjing Port by the Nanjing-Tongling Railway.
Maanshan is one of the major industrial hubs in Anhui Province. In 2015, the industry sector accounted for 50% of the GDP. Iron and steel, autos and auto parts, electricity production and supply, machinery, construction materials, textiles and chemicals are the main industries in the city.
Iron ore reserves in Maanshan is the largest in Anhui Province. Masteel Group is the largest industrial enterprise in Anhui in terms of output. It specialises in manufacture of wire, train wheels, steel plates, pig iron, iron oxide and other iron related products.
