General Introduction

Nanning, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, enjoys a fine reputation of "the Chinese green city".

Nanning is designated as a national hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. It has well-established transportation networks. While expressways connect the city with Guilin, Liuzhou and Beihai, the freshwater route can lead to Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao. The Nanning Wuxu International Airport (南寧吳圩機場) provides services to all Chinese provincial capitals and all major cities in ASEAN.

Nanning has been modernising its agricultural sector which accounted for 11% of the GDP in 2015. Major products include sugar cane, silk, fruits and vegetable. 

One of Nanning’s pillar industries is agricultural and food processing. Other major industries include paper products, chemical materials and products, pharmaceuticals, electrical machinery, equipment manufacturing and non-metallic mineral products. Total value-added of the industry sector accounted for 29% of the GDP in 2015.

The largest contributor is service sector, accounting for about half of the GDP. Apart from tourism, logistics has also become an important sector. Nanning has become one of the important bases of China-ASEAN logistics.

Foreign investors including Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) and DBS Bank Limited have set up their businesses in Nanning.
