Nanping is located in the northern part of the Fujian Province. Covering an area of 26,278 sq km, Nanping is the largest city in Fujian Province. The city is mountainous and hilly. Wuyishan, a famous tourist attraction, in located within Nanping and the Wuyishan Airport offers regular flights to Hong Kong and other mainland cities.
The Yingxia Railway and the Waifu Railway connect the city with Yingtan, Xiamen and Fuzhou.
Nanping has abundant natural resources. It is rich in niobium, tantalum, and fluorite. It also has plentiful forest resources. The city's woodlands account for almost one third of Fujian Province.
Benefiting from the rich natural resources, industries such as metallurgy, building material, bamboo and wood products processing, food processing, textiles and mechanical manufacturing are well developed in Nanping.
Leading enterprises in Nanping include Nanfu Battery and Nanping Sun Cable. Nanping Sun Cable, which is listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, is a major cable manufacturer in China.
