General Introduction

Pingliang lies in the eastern part of the Gansu Province. Transportation is convenient. The State Highway 312 (Shanghai-Yining) and the provincial Highway 203 run through the city. Pingliang is about 350 kilometres from Lanzhou, and there are buses connecting Pingliang with Lanzhou and other cities in the province.

Pingliang is an important agricultural production base in the province. Major products include wheat, corn, vegetable and fruits. Pingliang also has plenty mineral resources, in particular coal and limestone.

Benefiting from the abundant mineral resources, coal and electricity are major industries in the city. Other industries include building materials, medicine, food processing and leather production.
