General Introduction

Shantou lies in the eastern coast part of the Guangdong province. It was one of China's first five special economic zones that enjoyed special economic policies.

Transportation in Shantou is convenient. Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway, Shenzhen-Shantou Highway and Shantou-Fenshui Highway connect Shantou to other major cities in China.

Shantou Port, an important port in Guangdong Province, offers exports services to other China cities and foreign countries.

Shantou has a significant industry sector that accounted for 47% of its GDP in 2015. Major industries in the city are plastic products, textiles, energy, and machinery. Large companies in Shantou include Nanyang Cable, Longguang Group and Yihua Group.
