Shaoxing, situated in the northeastern part of the Zhejiang Province. It ranked as the 43rd most competitive city in China according to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2016.
Shaoxing is easily accessible by air and by road. The two airports in Shanghai, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, are within 1.5 hours’ drive, while Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport and Ningbo Lishe International Airport are within 1 hour's drive. The Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Railway and The Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Highway traverse the city.
Shaoxing’s economy is mainly driven by the industry sector which accounted for 44% of the GDP in 2015. The most important industry in Shaoxing is textile. Other major industries include machinery, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and electronic information. Local specialty products are rice wine and textiles.
Huafu Group, Cifu Fiber, Tiansheng Holding and Yuandong Group are the leading enterprises in the city. Shaoxing has also attracted Thailand-based Lotus and Japan-based Panasonic to set up businesses in the city.
With over 2,000 years of history, Shaoxing is one of China’s most well-known historical cities. Shaoxing is rich in tourism resources including the former residence of Lu Xun, Shen Garden, the Orchid Pavilion and Kuaiji Mountain Scenic Area.
