Shijiazhuang is the capital city of the Hebei Province, it ranked the 42nd most competitive city in China in 2016 according to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Shijiazhuang is designated as a national hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. There are five railways intersecting in Shijiazhuang, linking the city to other domestic cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Zhengzhou and Taiyuan. Zhengding International Airport, 20 km from the downtown area, offers scheduled domestic flight services. Cargo flights to Nanjing, Hong Kong and Seoul are also available in Zhengding airport.
Shijiazhuang is one of the country's biological industrial bases. Leading enterprises includes North China Pharmaceutical Huasheng Corp and Japan-invested North China Pharmaceutical Beta Corp, which are both under North China Pharmaceutical Group.
Other pillar industries in the city are chemicals, electronics and information technology, equipment manufacturing, and textiles and garments. The industry sector accounted for 40% of the GDP in 2015.
