Tai’an is located in the central part of the Shandong Province. Mount Tai, a famous tourist attraction, is located within Tai’an.
Transportation network in Tai'an is well established. A number of railways, highways and express railways including the Beijing-Shanghai Railway go through the city, linking the city with other major cities in China.
Tai'an has abundant mineral resources such as coal, iron, copper, gold, and aluminum.
The industry sector accounted for 39% of the GDP in 2015. Benefiting from the abundant mineral resources, pillar industries include coal mining, steel and steel-related products manufacturing, non-metal products producing, auto and auto parts, equipment manufacturing and fine chemicals.
Taishan Construction Machinery, Shandong Yiteng Group, Ruixing Group and Shandong Chunchao Color Master-batch are the leading industrial groups in Tai'an.
Tourism is a pillar industry of the service sector. The main tourist attraction is Mount Tai which is the first of the five sacred mountains in China. It has been included in UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites since 1987.
