Tianshui is located in the southeast part of the Gansu province, at the intersection of Gansu and Shaanxi provinces.
Tianshui is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. Tianshui Maijishan Airport operates scheduled flights to Lanzhou and Xi'an. Numerous highways and railways run through the city.
Tianshui has a significant agricultural sector. The city is one of the ten apple planting bases in China.
Xiaolong Mountain Forest Zone is the largest secondary forest zone in Northwestern China.
In 2015, the industry sector accounted for 23% of the GDP. The largest industry sector is electronic equipments manufacturing. Tianshui is one of the five famous electronic industrial bases in Gansu. Other industries include machinery and textile. Leading enterprise is Tianshui Huatian Technology, a Shenzhen-listed local company, mainly engaging in the testing and packaging of the semiconductor integrated circuits (ICs).
