Tongling is seated in the mid southern part of the Anhui Province. It is accessible by the Nanjing-Tongling Railway, the Shanghai-Chongqing Railway and the Beijing-Fuzhou Highway.
Tongling Port, a large inland port, also provides easy transportation for the city along the Yangtze River.
Tongling is known as the ancient copper capital in China because of its long history of copper mining and its rich copper deposits. The copper reserve in Tongling accounts for 70% of Anhui’s total. It is also rich in iron ore, gold, silver, limestone and sulfur reserves.
Tongling’s industry sector, that comprises copper mining and dressing, raw chemicals and chemical products, and construction materials, is the largest contributor to the city’s economy that accounted for 56% of the GDP in 2015.
Leading enterprises that have production lines in the city include Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group, China Trinity Group and Tong Feng Electronic. Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group is a large copper miner and copper products manufacturer in China, specializing in the manufacture of extrusion tools and equipment, packaging moulds and equipment, and automobile moulds.
