Wuxi is located in the south-east part of the Jiangsu Province in the Yangtze River Delta. It ranked as the 10th most competitive city in China in 2016 according to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Wuxi is designated as a national hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. There are 6 highways running through the city. The Wuxi Sunan International Airport, 14 km from the city’s downtown, offers domestic and international flight routes, such as Hong Kong, Osaka, Tokyo and Taipei.
Wuxi has a large industry sector which comprises 45% of its GDP in 2015. It focuses on heavy industries, including machinery, metallurgy, and the petrochemical industries. The major light industries are electronics and textiles.
Wuxi is famous for tourism which is the significant part to the service sector. Wuxi Taihu National Vacation and Holiday Tourist Resort is one of state-level tropical holiday resort in China, which is well known for its upscale hotels.
