Xiangfan is the third largest economy in Hubei Province, after Wuhan and Yichang. It is located in the northwest of Hubei Province, close to the southwest corner of Henan Province. Xiangfan covers an area of 19,566 sq km. It contains three subordinate districts, three counties and three county-level cities.
Xiangfan enjoys a subtropical humid monsoon climate with plenty of sunshine, moderate precipitation and four distinct seasons. Two railways and the Hanshui River cut through the city, making it convenient to gain transportation to reach it.

Xiangfan’s GDP was RMB 120.1 billion in 2009, an increase of 15% over the last year. Value-added output from primary industry hit RMB 20 billion in 2009, rising 3% from a year ago. Secondary industry and tertiary industry generated value-added output of RMB 57.5 billion and RMB 42.5 billion, up 19.9% and 14.4% compared with the previous year, respectively. Primary industry, secondary industry and tertiary industry comprised 16.7%, 47.9% and 35.4% of the city's GDP, respectively.
In 2009, value-added industrial output generated by enterprises with designated size and above soared 27.6% to RMB 46.1 billion. Heavy industrial enterprises and light industrial enterprises realized value-added industrial output of RMB 30 billion and RMB 16.1 billion, constituting 65% and 35% of the city’s industrial sector.
Xiangfan’s pillar industries include automobile, food, manufacturing, textile, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, equipment manufacturing and electronics. In 2009, the industrial output of these industries reached RMB 154.2 billion.
With more than 180 auto parts manufacturers such as Dongfeng Industrial (Xiangfan) and Xiangfan Lutumei Auto Parts, Xiangfan has become one of the most important auto parts production bases in central China.
In 2009, total foreign trade reached US$433.7 million, an decrease of 17.3% over the previous year. This included US$329.4 million worth of export, an decrease of 12.2% and US$104.3 million of import, an decrease of 30.2%.
Xiangfan’s utilized FDI has increased by 48.1%, reaching US$250.7 million in 2009. The city approved 25 foreign-invested enterprises to set up business in the city. With a total investment of US$29.3 million, the Xiangyang Luhua Peanut Oil Project managed by the joint venture company of Wilmar International Investment Corporation of Singapore and Shandong Luhua Group of China is expected to improve the industrialization of the agriculture sector there.

Xiangfan has a history dating back more than 2,800 years. It was approved as a National Historical Cultural City by the State Council in 1986.Throughout history, Xiangfan has always been a strategic battleground. Zhuge Liang, a famous historical figure during the Three Kingdoms period, lived in Longzhong of Xiangfan for more than 10 years.

Xiangfan is one of the three major tourist cities of Hubei Province. As a 4A level attraction, Longzhong Scenery Area is 13 km away from Xiangfan City. The historical characters and natural views combine to interests large numbers of tourists to visit there. The 3A level attractions include the Memorial Temple to Mi Fu, Shuijing Village, Xie Mountain Resort and Nan River Three Gorges.
The local products in Xiangfan include Xiangfan Kohlrabi, also called Kongming vegetable, Jingang Short Bread, champignon, agarics and tea. Tourists can find many snacks there such as Cold Noodles, Bean Curd Noodles and yellow wine.
