Xuancheng is seated in the southeastern part of the Anhui Province. The city is famous for Xuan Paper, Xuan Writing Brushes and Hui Ink.
It is accessible by the Wangan Railway, the Xuancheng-Hangzhou Railway and State Highway 205.
The city's famous bamboo forest is the largest in Anhui Province. Xuancheng’s paper and bamboo products are the major exports of the city.
The industry sector accounted for 42% of the GDP in 2015. With its rich limestone resources, one of the major industries in Xuancheng is construction material. Other major industries include equipment manufacturing, petrochemicals and non-ferrous metallurgy.
Xuancheng has the largest output of tea in Anhui province. The city hosts tea festival to boost the development of the tourism industry.
