Xuzhou is situated in the northwest of the Jiangsu Province. It ranked as the 36th most competitive city in China in 2016 according to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Xuzhou is designated as a national hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. The Beijing-Shanghai Railway and national highways connect the city with other major cities in China. The Grand Canal goes through the city and makes Xuzhou Port an important energy transfer port. Xuzhou Guanyin Airport offers scheduled domestic flights to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
The industry sector dominates Xuzhou’s economy, accounting for 37% of the city’s GDP in 2015. Equipment manufacturing, energy, and food processing serve as major industries and significant parts to the industry sector. Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG) and Xuzhou Mining Group are large industrial enterprises operating businesses in the city.
