Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture is located in the eastern part of the Jilin Province. Covering an area of approximately 43,474 sq km, Yanbian is the largest administrative division in Jilin.
Yanbian is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. There are highways and railways connecting the prefecture with most major cities in China, as well as some Russian and North Korean cities. Yanji Chaoyangchuan Airport operates flights to cities including Beijing, Shenyang, Qingdao, Guanzhou, Dalian, and Shanghai.
Yanbian is rich in natural resources, in particular limestone which ranked first in Jilin Province. The overall industry sector accounted for 45% of the GDP in 2015. Major industries include food processing, pharmaceuticals, forestry, energy and mining.
Tourism is an important pillar for Yanbian's service sector. Yanbian is the only Korean Autonomous Prefecture in China and is famous as a town of etiquette and as a town of songs and dances. With its unique connection with Korea, Yanbian attracts millions of tourists every year. Major tourist attraction is Changbai Mountain Natural Reserve which is a state level nature reserve and has been included in UNESCO's Man and Biosphere Program.
